No other day like today

Romeo was sat on a riverbank next to a blonde haired boy. It was sunset and they were watching the setting sun slowly sink towards the hills on the opposite bank. The sky was a mix of pinks and oranges that reflected in the river.

"We'll reach Milano tomorrow." The blonde boy spoke first, his arms around his knees as he stared out onto the water.

Romeo felt a thrill of worry, fear and uncertainty. He looked up into the beautiful red sky, "What's going to happen to us?" He sensed rather than saw the older boy look towards him and for a moment there was silence before the boy picked up a stone and threw it in the water, which rippled outwards.

"When I was feeling low, Bianca always used to tell me..."

"What did she say?" Romeo looked at him.

The boy smiled, remembering fondly. "There's only one day like today in your entire life. When all else fails, keep living. So... Keep your spirits up and things'll turn out okay." He smiled at Romeo, a kindly smile and Romeo felt like he was right. Everything would turn out okay as long as he kept his spirits up.

"High spirits... Thing's will be okay." His voice was full of awe at the wisdom that was being passed to him. He grinned and let out a small laugh, the blonde boy laughed too.

"And when you can't keep your spirits up..."

"When you can't keep them up?" Romeo leaned towards him and the boy reached out for his hand.

"Just do this!" He grasped Romeo's hand and pulled him up so they were both standing. Their hands, intertwined, shot up into the air as they stood facing the setting sun.

The boy smiled at him. "So? Feel better, don't'cha?"

Romeo's smile was huge. "Yeah."

"Alright!"
