Romeo always does the right thing; even when it would make his life easier to do the wrong thing or to do nothing at all. This is an eleven year old boy who sold himself into slavery to hire a doctor for his sick father, who almost drowns to save the slaver Luini, who runs back into a building he knows is going to explode in order to save his master; Rossi, a man who had allowed him to be starved, hurt, locked in a cage and arrested for a crime he knows he did not commit.

Romeo spent a year in the city as a chimney sweep. There he met his best friend Alfredo who irrovocably changed his life. He makes a vow of eternal friendship with him and always tries to protect him, tries to better himself to be more like him. Together they form an allience of chimney sweeps, a brotherhood. Romeo will always stand up for his friends, and those who are being bullied. Even when it means going up against those bigger than him, or whole gangs. He will do anything for his friends and always sees the best in everyone.

He is a curious boy who loves to learn and has a dream of becoming a teacher, to help children everywhere live in a better world and run free under the blue sky, this is the dream also of Alfredo who asked him to carry it on when he died. It is difficult for Romeo to trust adults as he has come to expect cruelty from them. However despite everything Romeo is always positive, always tries to keep his spirits up and help those around him to do the same. He stands up for the truth, and will fight his ground if accused unfairly of anything, he will never run away from his problem
